Arun River Rafting

Among many white river rafting in Nepal, Arun river rafting is one of them in the eastern part of the country. Arun river originates from tibet, and one of the major tributaries of Saptakoshi River. On the river, the powerful current drives your raft or kayak through 6 days of great white water action and you have to face more challenges each day as the number of rapids appears one after another in succession. At night you relax in the fantastic beaches on the river bank with the beautiful view of dramatic valley. The combination of trekking, spectacular scenery, great rapids and remote location make Arun the best river to enjoy the fantastic white water rafting trip in Nepal.

The easiest way to approach the river is by flying to Tumlingtar from Kathmandu and then walk. This is the closest point for the rafting put in point Kartike Ghat. We reach Kartike Ghat by trek from Tumlingtar. Alternatively one can drive 1½ days. Arun river rafting begins with a 3 - day trek through remote villages in Eastern Nepal - area where very few trekkers and visitors reach each year. The camping out in lush forests with magnificent views of the Snow capped Himalayan peaks is another attraction of the trip along with the rafting.

Day 01 : Fly Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and Trek to Kartike Ghat
We take a beautiful and scenic flight to Tumlingtar which is one of the biggest Tar ( big plot of  dry flat area ) in Nepal. After the flight, we walk to Kartike Ghat which is about 3 - 4 hours walk to Kartikeghat.

Day 02 : Rafting and Camp in Tumlingtar
We raft down to the Tumlingtar today and then camp overnight.

Day 03 : Rafting and camp in the forest
We raft further down and camp in the mid forest.

Day 04 : Rafting and camp nearby Bhite rapid
We raft again after breakfast and then overnight stay in the camp set up nearby Bhite rapid. Today it is more challenging day with few good rapids the one notable in the left - bend rapid before the suspension bridge of Ranighat. One after another rapids follows after this for the day to make your day challenging and thrilling.

Day 05 : Rafting ends at Chatara and transfer to Kathmandu.
Today is more relaxed day than the previous one. Arun river now meets Sunkoshi which forms later Saptakoshi - a major river system of eastern Nepal. After an hour floating we reach Bara Chetra - a famous Hindu site of Lord Vishnu. We raft another half an hour to Chatra and then drive back to Kathmandu.
