Ganja La Pass Trekking

Ganja La pass is one of the difficult Himalayan pass with a high of 5132 m. In Ganja la pass trek, trekkers can enjoy Buddhist culture and tradition. Beautiful Himalayan sightseeing as well as beautiful Buddhist monastery can be seen on the way.        
The route from Kyanjin Gompa in Langtang to Tarke Gyang in Helambu crossing 5106m begins Ganja La Pass trekking. Crossing the Langtang Khola below Kyanjin Gompa, the trail makes a steep climb along the ridge on the south side of the valley through a forest of rhododendron and juniper. Ganja La trail continues south, following streams and moraines and climbing steeply towards the pass. The views to the north from the pass, of Langtang Lirung and the snow peaks in Tibet, including Shisha Pangma at 8013m, are outstanding.

Day 01: Kathmandu arrival (1300m)
Welcome to Kathmandu, the capital. You will meet our company representative on your arrival and transferred to your hotel, here you will be formally introduced to your Guide and the activities to be enjoyed over the next few days.  We will also ask for your passport photographs and any other details required for your trek permits, at this stage

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing.
After breakfast, you start an interesting tour around Kathmandu. We will arrange a guide of your chosen language to give you a tour and introduction to our rich culture amongst our ancient and fascinating history and religion. In our sightseeing tour you go to Monkey temple Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath and Kathmandu Durbar square.

Day 03 : Kathmandu –Dhunche (1966m)7- 8 hour drive
Travelling through Trishuli (Nuwakot) today the journey length will depend on the season and the number of landslides caused by heavy rains. The views on the way are very pretty.

Day 04: Dhunche to Syabru Gaun (2581m) 5 and half hour drive
Trek from Dhunche to Syabru Gaon (2581m.). Trek to Syabru Gaon (6950ft, 2120m). The trek today is very leisurely through forests and terraced hill slopes. As you enter Syabru, you descend to the ridge line that separates the Langtang Khola from the Trisuli River. Syabru is a beautiful village stretched out along the ridge line. You will continue through the village to your campsite about fifteen minutes beyond on the slopes below the village. The sunset is spectacular, brilliantly backlighting the houses perched on the ridge line above. From here you can enjoy spectacular view of Lantang Lirung (7245m.), Tibetan Himal ranges and so on.

Day 05: Syabru Gaun to Lama Hotel(2470m) 5hrs trek.
Trek from Syabru Gaon to Lama Hotel (2470m.) and it takes about five hours. The trail descends along the ridge on Syabru's main street and then drop to the Ghopche Khola (2050 m.) and again descends to the Landslide (1810m.). Afterwards, you trek ascends gently to Rimche (2400m.) through Bamboo (1960m.) and at the end your trail is level to the Lama Hotel. En route you could see red pandas, monkey and bear if you are lucky. There are few lodges and shops which provides the trekker supplies

Day 06: Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3430m) 5hrs trek.
Your gentle climb to begin with soon steepens high above the river to Ghora Tabela. (2970m). you will soon find yourself in open country with scattered Tamang settlements.  You will have climbed nearly 100m today relatively steadily.  The village here is home to some yak herds and cheese factories, worth exploring if you have the energy.

Day 07: Langtang Village to Kyanjing (3870m) 4hrs trek.
You will climb to the ridge this morning marked with a big Chorten and some Mani walls; from here you will have views of Kyanjing Gompa and the Icefall from Langtang Lirung surrounded by snowy mountains.  You will be walking for around 3 hours today so time to explore the area this afternoon.

Day 08: Rest Day at Kyangjin Gompa
Rest day at Kyangjin Gompa and excursion in and around. This is day to rest and explore the area. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri [4350m], directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peaks.

Day 09: Kyanjing Gompa to Tserko Ri –Kyanjing  (5,033m) 4hrs trek.
Trek and climb upto Tserko Ri (5033m.) which takes about 5 hours to see the outstanding views of surrounding peaks and back to Kyangin Gompa.

Day 10: Kyanjing Gompa to Negang(4000m) 5hrs Trek.
Trek from Kyanjing Gompa to Ngegang(4000m), There you cannot see any villages. The trail goes on ascending and area is covered with little natural vegetation. Since there are not available any lodge, you need to camp

Day 11: Ngegang to Keldang(5106m) 5hrs trek.
Trek Ngegang to Keldang (5106m.) via Ganja La (5100m.) This day is comparatively strenuous as you need to cross the Ganja la pass. On the Ganja la pass, you can find it covered with snowy ice most of the times throughout the year. You need to camp.

Day 12: Keldang To Dukpu(4080m)5 and half hrs trek.
Trek Keldang to Dukpu(4080m.) Your camping site will be inside the forest. This day will be long day walking along ridge, grassland, very silent, amazing views of Mountains

Day 13: Dukpu to Tarkegyang(2740m)
Trek Dukpu to Tarkeghyang( 2740m.) Trail descends about 200mtrs, climb the 4100m pass. Views from Pass are spectacular to the Annapurna Region and Mt. Everest region too. From pass trail descends through pine forest, rhododendron forest past tiny herder's settlement to Tarkeghyang. You can visit one of the oldest Buddhist monastery and Sherpa villages. These villages are well settled where friendly and cheerful natured people inhabit.

Day 14: Tarkeghyang to Shermanthang(2621m)4 hrs trek
A 4 hour walk today and you will find the trail is relatively easy following flat ground and through beautiful forests.  Shermanthang is another pretty village with ancient monasteries, from the northern end of the village you will see views of Jugal Himal.

Day 15: Shermanthang to Melamchi Pul (846m) 2hrs trek
You drop 1730m today over 2 hours, passing many Chortens and meadows.  Eventually you will reach Kakani, the last Sherpa village.  You are now entering the lowlands where Brahmin and Cheetri are the dominant tribes.  The trail descends from here to Melamchi Pul.

Day 16: Melamchi Pul to Kathmandu
Your journey today is for six hours long . You will be taken to your hotel on arrival in Kathmandu

Day 17: Kathmandu free day of your own.
Enjoy a day exploring some of the quieter streets of Kathmandu, stocking up on souvenirs and presents for those back home.

Day 18: Final Departure.
You will be taken to the airport in good time to meet your flight home.

This list is only a guideline. While you are required to bring everything on this list, there are numerous options, brands, and versions of each piece of equipment. Use your experience and the listed features to find the best gear for you. Some of the above equipments can be easily found in stores in Kathmandu for cheaper prices.

 General

1.    4 seasons Sleeping bag (Optional/we can provide one if you need it but is to be
       returned after the trek).
2.    Duffel or Rucksack bag  and   suitcase (Optional/Duffel bag we can provide one
       if you need it but is to be returned after    the trek).
3.    Daypack .
4.    Down Jacket (Optional/we can provide if you need one but is to be returned after the trek).

Upper Body - Head / Ears / Eyes

1.    Shade hat or baseball cap.
2.    Warm wool or synthetic hat that cover your ears.
3.    Balaclava - lightweight, thinner variety.
4.    Glacier glasses.
5.    Headlamp.
6.    Some people like ear-muffs; These are optional; a good hat, balaclava, and hooded jacket
       should really be sufficient, but this is a personal choice for some people (optional).
7.    A neck warmer is another piece of gear for extra warmth if you feel you will need it (optional).

Hand

1.    1 pair liner gloves, thin wool or synthetic, useful alone on mild days or as a layer inside other
       gloves / mitts for additional warmth.
2.    1 pair warm gloves (heavier fleece or wool).
3.    Instant hand warmers are always nice in a pinch, but really shouldn't be necessary on the trek.
       Bringing appropriate hand protection as recommended above, should be sufficient (optional).

Core Body

1.    T-shirts (2).
2.    Light and expedition weight thermal tops.
3.    Fleece jacket or pullover.
4.    Fleece Wind-Stopper jacket (optional).
5.    Waterproof (preferably breathable fabric) shell jacket.
6.    2 women sports bras, Synthetic, no cotton!
7.    Long shirts.

Lower Body – Legs

1.    2 pairs nylon hiking shorts - Quick drying type, not cotton!
2.    Underwear, stay away from cotton (4).
3.    2 pairs lightweight long underwear - capilene or other synthetic.
4.    1 pair soft shell pants - synthetic, full zip from top and bottom preferable.
5.    2 pairs trekking pants, preferably that zip on/off at the knees so they double as shorts.
6.    1 pair hard shell pants. Waterproof / breathable, Gore-Tex or equivalent is best.
       Should zip from the top and bottom - this  makes it easier to put on over boots without
       getting undressed should the weather change once you    are underway for the day.
7.    1 pair cotton pants (loose jeans/khakis).
8.    All clothing should be kept dry using waterproof stuff sacks
      or large puncture resistant plastic bags.

Feet

1.    2-3 pairs of liner socks, synthetic or capilene.
2.    2-3 pairs heavy weight socks to be worn over liner socks.
3.    1 pair light weight socks, a good option for the lower / warmer parts of the trail.
4.    1 pair light to medium weight water proof hiking/trekking boots. Ensure a good fit with
       layered socks and you have worn then before to get used to it
       (otherwise you will get lots of blister).
5.    1 pair light trekking shoes or sneakers. Good for around the camp/lodges and in Kathmandu.
6.    1 pair hiking gaiters, good for keeping dust and rocks out of your shoes / boots as well as keep
       your feet dry as necessary (Optional).
7.    1 pair sandals (Optional).

Medicines and First Aid Kits

(Please note our guide will also carry the first aid kit bag during the trek. However we still recommend you to bring your personal first aid kit as well)

1.    Extra Strength Excedrin for altitude related headaches.
2.    Ibuprofen for general aches and pains.
3.    Immodium or Pepto bismol capsules for upset stomach or diarrhea.
4.    Diamox (commonly prescribed as Acetazolamide) 125 or 250mg tablets for altitude sickness.
       Please discuss with us before starting to take this medicine.
5.    1 small personal sized first-aid kit with blister treatments such as mole skin, band-aids,
       some waterproof tape,  anti-infection ointments, etc. Your guides will have more extensive
       medical gear, but you should have the basics for general use.|

Miscellaneous

1.    Passport and extra passport photos (4 copies).
2.    Airline ticket (Please make a copy and leave on at our office in KTM
       just in case if you need to change the date of your).
3.    Durable wallet / pouch for travel documents, money & passport.
4.    Lip balm. At least SPF 20, 2 sticks. A string taped to the stick is helpful,
       to hang around your neck and some are now being sold with a cord already attached.
       Handy as it avoids you from having to stop and look for it.
5.    Sunscreen. SPF 40 is recommended and should be relatively new
       since it loses its' effectiveness over time.
6.    Pocket knife or small Swiss Army type.
7.    Water purification Iodine tablets or Polar-pure crystals.
8.    Toiletry kit. Be sure to include toilet paper stored in a plastic bag,
       hand wipes, and liquid hand sanitizer, towel, soap, etc.
9.    2 bandanas.

Optional

1.    1 pair adjustable trekking poles. Although these are listed as optional,
       these can be of great assistance to people who may think of themselves and generally
       clumsy or with bad knees, ankles, etc, especially when going downhill.
2.    Favorite snack foods, no more than 2 pounds.
3.    Paperback books, cards, mp3 player (there are a couple of stops where you could recharge.
       Avoid players with moving hardware as it may not function. Remember,
       keep these items light weight.
4.    Binoculars.
5.    1 light weight point & shoot camera or 1 large SLR. Digital cameras are ok,
       but you must keep the batteries warm when not in use.
6.    Hydration bladder with drinking tube and tube insulator.
7.    A pee bottle for men and pee funnel for woman, some swear by them to avoid
       that chilly late night trip.
8.    1 small stainless steel thermos.
