Mera Peak Direct route

Mera Peak with the elevation of 6,461 meters above the level is an ideal peak for mountain climbing in the Himalayas of Nepal. The peak is situated in the Mahalangur range of the Himalayas, the same range where Mt. Everest is situated, it allows adventurers an incredible opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the magical charm of the Himalayas. Despite the strenuous physical effort to trek through the trail and climb the mountain, the trip is certainly worth taking the effort.  The breathtaking view of the 8000 meters mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Kanchenjunga in addition to several other mountain peaks is definitely overwhelming.

As the peak is categorized as a trekking peak, all adventure enthusiasts - experienced, less experienced or first timer - can go for this amazing expedition. One who wants to go for the adventure obviously needs to partake in the preparation. Working out on fitness and acclimatization in the high altitude is a much needed prerequisite for the trip.

Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival – 1400 m

Once you arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will see Mountain Delights’ representative waiting for you just outside the arrival deck. You will see either our company signboard or a placard with your name printed on it. You will be taken to the trip hotel where you check in and relax for some time. Later we will take you for a short tour of Thamel, the main tourist hub in Kathmandu, to show you some good restaurants, ATMs, money changer and other necessary places you might need to go. We go back to hotel after the tour and talk about the trip in details. If your arrival is late today, we will do this tour and trip briefing tomorrow before we start for the tour.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour - B

We will take you for a historical and heritage tour of Kathmandu valley today after breakfast. sightseeing today in Kathmandu takes you to the amazing heritage sites.

Boudhanath: It is considered as the biggest Buddhist Stupa in the world which lies in the middle of a beautiful square. The giant Buddhist shrine is a very important pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhist people. The stupa is considered to have been built in 4th/5th centuries and carries some interesting stories behind its establishment. A stupa is basically a relic monument considered as a sacred shrine in Buddhism but there are several other types of stupas other than relic stupas. A stupa symbolizes the journey of a human being from material world to the world of enlightenment.

Pashupatinath: It is a Hindu Temple area where you can see a very unique cremation culture for the Hindu dead people. The temple which is considered as the most important Shiva temple in Nepal is open for Hindus only thus non-Hindu people have to stay outside the temple premises observing the Hindu death rites and rituals. We can encounter some Sadhus, the holy men, around who look so fascinating for photographs. The place is a rich spiritual and cultural source to have an insight on Nepali life and rituals.After tour have time for free and easy. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03: Kathmandu – Lukla 2840m – Chutanga 3020m (4 Hours) – B/L/D

We take an early morning and spectacular flight to Lukla airstrip. After about 40 minutes of adventurous and scenic flight, the small fixed winged aircraft lands the airstrip and we enter the beautiful town of Lukla. All our expedition crew will be waiting for us at Lukla. After an introductory meeting with the crew members, we start the trek for the day to Chutanga. Walking through the forest and bushes and passing several mountain streams, we reach Chutanga to stay overnight.

Day 04: Acclimatization Day – B/L/D

We are spending one extra night here today as part of acclimatization. We are going to takes some acclimatization hiking today to adjust ourselves with the high altitude climate. We hike to Kharkateng which is around 4000 meters above sea level. Slow paced hike to the higher elevation gets us used to with the high altitude climate and we return back to Chuthanga for overnight stay.

Day 05: Chutanga – Zwatra La 4600m – Thuli Kharka 4300m  (6-7  Hours) – B/L/D

We start our adventurous day early in the morning today. We head towards a high Himalayan pass called Zwatra La to cross it to go to Thuli Kharka. A steep uphill walk takes towards the pass. We come across some breathtaking view of the mountain peaks like Kongde and Numbur Himal and Dudh Koshi river valley once we are at the pass before descending to Thuli Kharka. Stay overnight at Thuli Kharka.

Day 06: Thuli Kharka – Kothe 4182m (5.30 hours) – B/L/D

We are going to walk towards the Hinku Valley today. The first section of the trail descends to Hinku River. We follow the downhill trail carefully and enjoy the walk to the river. The trail now enters rhododendron forest and heads at Kothe.

Day 07: Kothe – Thaknak 4360m  (4 Hours) – B/L/D

The walk along the ridge of Hinku Khola today takes us to Thaknak. We walk for about 5 hours before reaching the destination today passing across Gondishung where there is an old Buddhist monastery called Lungsungba monastery. This place also has temporary summer camps for herders. We walk further ahead towards Thaknak to set our camp for our overnight stay.

Day 08: Thaknak – Khare 4945m  (3 Hours)– B/L/D

We walk to Khare via Dig Kharka today. We are heading up towards higher altitude of 4945 meters above sea level. The walk today brings some incredible views of snow-capped mountain peaks. We take a slow paced walk towards Dig Kharka and then further towards Khare. Once we reach Khare, we can see an overwhelming view of Mera Peak which is our first destination peak of the trip. We set camp at Khare to stay overnight.

Day 09: Khare – Mera Base Camp 5300m (3.30  Hour) – B/L/D

About 4 hours of walk today takes us to Mera Base Camp. Walking up on a steep trail, we reach Mera Base Camp to set our camp and have our lunch at the base camp. We settle ourselves on our tents at the elevation of 5300 meters above sea level,After Lunch ,our guides will train or teach you some climbing techniques and the proper ways of using climbing gears such as the ice axe, climbing boots and crampons, harness, ascender,.Stay overnight at tented camp.

Day 10: Mera Base Camp – High Camp 5780m (4.30 Hours) – B/L/D

We climb to high camp today after breakfast. A challenging climb through snow and several crevasses make our day little tough. But that is the nature of climbing expedition. We adjust ourselves with the atmosphere and surrounding and walk up towards high camp carefully. Once reaching the high camp, we settle on the tents.

Day 11: High Camp – Summit 6461m – Khare 4945m (9 Hours) – B/L/D

Today is the day to summit Mera Peak, the first of our expedition peaks of the trip. We start the climb very early morning and walk through the snow towards the summit. Mera peak is a less technical mountain to climb and once we reach the summit, we can see a spectacular view of the highest mountain in the world, Everest and 8000 meters mountains of Lhotse (8516m) and Cho Oyu (8210m) and several other beautiful mountains like Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Chamlang etc. After enjoying the incredible view from the summit of Mera Peak, we descend down to the base camp and walk all the way back to Khare.Stay overnight at Khare.

Day 12: Contingency Day

This is an extra day to make up any possible delays and other necessary circumstances on our climbing adventure.

Day 13: Khare – Kothe 3600m (6  Hours) – B/L/D

We start trekking down towards Khare on Hinku valley today. About 5 hours of trekking in the valley with breathtaking Himalayan background takes us to Kothe where we establish our camp for a relaxing stay tonight.

Day 14: Kothe – Thuli Kharka 4300m (6 Hours) – B/L/D

We pack up our camp and start our trek towards Thuli Kharka today. Our uphill walk through rhododendron forest goes uphill on the very first section. We still enjoy the majestic view of our adventure peak, Mera which will definitely remind us of the unforgettable adventure we took up on the mountain. We walk further towards Thuli Kharka and stay overnight there.

Day 15: Thuli Kharka - Lukla 2840m (7 Hours) – B/L/D

We walk back to Lukla today. On the way to Lukla, we cross Zatrwa La pass which is situated at the elevation of 4600 meters above sea level. The walk up to the pass is of about 2 hours. We can enjoy the view of Lukla valley and mountain peaks including Kongde and Numbur. After enjoying the view from the pass, we start trekking towards Lukla via Chutanga on a gentle and easy trail. Once in Lukla, we see off our expedition crew members thanking them for the successful and memorable adventure. Without them, our journey would have been impossible.Stay overnight at Lukla.

Day 16: Lukla – Kathmandu 1400m – B

We take another beautiful morning flight back to Kathmandu by a fixed winged aircraft. Saying a heartfelt good bye to the majestic mountains after so many days of wonderful moments amongst them is quite difficult but we have to do it anyway. We finally land at Kathmandu airport to feel the city air. We are transferred to our hotel and left on our own to enjoy and relax.

Day 17: Love Kathmandu Tour (Hidden places in Kathmandu and Durbar square)

Walk with us around the local town in Kathmandu to experience the local life and culture., the tour lets you a great opportunity to experience historical, cultural and spiritual affluence to unveil the social and historical mysteries.. On this walking tour, we explore the Local market of Ason, glass beads market at Indrachowk, oldest supermarket at New Road, Kilagal, and Hidden Stupa etc.

After exploring these hidden charms of Kathmandu, we walk to Kathmandu Durbar Square. It is famous for its unique historical, cultural and religious traditions. The most unique experience in the square is the visit to the temple of living goddess “Kumari”. Durbar square walking tour will be a perfect mixture of culture, history, art, architecture and traditional values prevalent in Kathmandu valley. After tour you have time for free and easy.Overnight at hotel.

Day 18 : Departure Day

We will drive you to airport for the departure flight three prior to your flight schedule.
