Visiting Nepal on a festival tour can be an amazing experience, and with Festival Tours you will not only experience the festival, but also be part of it. There are cultural tours and Nepal festival tours that tempt you with the idea of celebrating Nepalese festivals every day.

Teej also referred to as “Haritalika Teej” is one of the many important festivals which is celebrated all over Nepal. The festival is celebrated on the day of the waxing moon, the first day after the full moon in the month of August. It is celebrated all over the Nepal and is considered an important day for the Nepalese ladies. In Kathmandu, the Pasupatinath Templeis the most revered and popular place for women to receive the blessing of Teej in Nepal.

During this colorful festival, married and unmarried women dress in beautiful sarees and jewelry, put Mehendi on their hands while performing fasting and rituals all day long. The first day (eve) of Teej is called “Dar Khane Din”. On that day, women who will perform fasting next day will prepare themselves by preparing delicious and nutritious food and eat them by gathering with female relatives and sister. The feast last till midnight and the next day they perform 24 hours long fasting and rituals. It is believed that doing that will ensure the long life of their husband.

On the day of Teej, A large folk festival is organized, where women gather and sing songs to praise the god and goddesses.  Many programs are organized during this festival to gather with sisters and dance on special Nepalese folk songs solely made for the Teej festival. The teej songs are characteristically differentiable with any other Nepalese folk song due to the lyrics and music. There is a trend of raising voice against social injustice, woman empowerment, injustice to woman and social taboos with the help of Teej song. So, when you are here in Nepal during the month of august, you might hear the music being played in most of the places in Nepal and women wearing red sarees walking on the street, you can assume that you arrived on a day of Teej.

This year due to Covid-19, teej has been limited to own house. The active lockdown has restricted people to gather in mass and visit temples, organize events and rituals. Hence, women in Nepal are celebrating 2020 Teej from their home in a safe manner.

Mountain Delights Teks & Expedition wishes a happy Teej to all. If you have more inquiry regarding the festival or if you are planning for a festival tour, please feel free to write to us at info@gotomountain.com/
