Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Overview

This trek, located north of Pokhara, is one of the most beautiful routes in the Annapurna region, offering breathtaking Himalayan views from the top of Poon Hill. Poon Hill is renowned as one of the best viewpoints to capture panoramic vistas of the Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna range, and the majestic Dhaulagiri.

You will be greeted warmly at the Tribhuvan International Airport by Mountain Delight’s representative. After your arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel, following the check-in process and some rest, you can explore Thamel, known for its trekking goods, Money changers, handicrafts, along with great restaurants. We will conduct a pre-trek briefing at our office. You will spend the night in a hotel in Kathmandu.

You start the day with a delicious breakfast served at your hotel. The sightseeing involves a tour of two religious and cultural sites of Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath stupa.

Pashupatinath Temple: It is one of the most celebrated Hindu temples in South Asia. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. This place is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The Bagmati river flowing beside the temple is religiously and spiritually significant for Hindus where cremation of dead bodies takes place. Pashupatinath temple holds the most prominence during Shivaratri – Shiva’s birthday and thousands of pilgrims gather in the night to celebrate the day.

Boudhanath Stupa: It is one of the biggest Stupas in terms of size and height in Nepal and is located east of Kathmandu on the ancient trade route between India and Tibet. The site is peaceful and culturally filled with the intermixed influence of Tibetan and Sherpa roots. Stupa built on the trading route between Kathmandu and Tibet has four pairs of eyes directed towards all four directions. It is believed to be influenced by Mahayana Buddhist philosophy. After a short tour of the city, we return to the hotel and prepared for the trek. Overnight will be spent at the hotel

After a delightful breakfast at the hotel, you will start your day with a 25-minute flight to Pokhara which allows breathtaking aerial views of the Himalayas. We will take a smooth drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, then continue on a bumpy road to Tikhedhunga. There we will have lunch before starting the steep ascent to Ulleri, a beautiful village with panoramic views of the Annapurna South, Himchuli, and the tip of Fishtail Top mountain peaks. Spend the night at the local lodge.

The next day, you will start a modest hike from Ulleri to Banthati, then walk through a forest to Nagthanthi for lunch before continuing the trail to Ghorepani. Ghorepani lies in the heart of the Rhododendron Forest, just below Poonhill. From this beautiful village, you will be able to see overwhelming views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. You will rest at a teahouse overnight in Ghorepani.

Leaving Tikhedhunga, we continue with our journey with a steep climb up Ulleri. Uleri is a large Magar village at 2070m. The trail then continues to ascend more gently, through fine forests of oak and rhododendrons towards Banthanti at 2250m. Then we trek towards Nangethanti at 2460m before arriving at Ghorepani at 2840m. Ghorepani is a relatively large village with excellent views of the Annurpurna range, Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri. Here you can stock up on supplies such as drinking water, snacks etc.

Dhaulagiri ranges. An excellent vantage point, Poon Hill provides an unobstructed view of the high Himalayas. Here we spend an hour or so before returning back to Ghorepani for breakfast. Leaving Ghorepani, we climb along ridges and through pine and rhododendron forests toward Deurali (2960m) before reaching Tadapani.

After having the local breakfast  we will start our  walk to Gandruk village. Today the trail continues with beautiful forest along with the agriculture field of the villagers. Gandruk is the beautiful and famous village from where the great scenario of the Himalaya range  can be seen There is gurung comunity musium you can visit and an old farmer village in tehe  side,rich of gurung culture so you spend some time exploreing the village. There is Gurung  culturel musium that  you can visit.You can see nice sunset over the annapurna mountain.Overnight at Lodge.

After breakfast, we take a scenic drive to Pokhara, check into the hotel, and after lunch, we take a tour around Pokhara. First visit Devi’s Fall, in Nepali term for it is Patale Chango, derived from the literal translation of Paatal Ko Chango, meaning "Underworld's waterfall.

Just opposite of Devis fall, we visit Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, considered to be the most famous and longest cave in Nepal (2950m).  found during the 16th century.

Then we drive to the International Mountain Museum is the best museum where you can learn about the vast mountain ranges in Nepal, their ethnic groups, and their lifestyle. You can also learn about international mountains, amazing wonders, and famous mountaineers' lifestyles. It has a stunning collection of artifacts, original mountain gear, stories, and photographs of the mountains, their inhabitants, and the explorers who climbed some of the highest peaks in the world.

In the early evening, we take you boating tour on  Fewa Lake, it's a 5 Square Km lake which is beautiful with a magnificent view of the mountains both in the distance and reflection in the water. You will also boat to a holy temple middle of the lake. Spend your night at a hotel in Pokhara.

After breakfast, you take a tourist bus to Pokhara tourist bus park, then drive back to Kathmandu – some 206 km.  You drive through a beautiful bending mountain highway that stretches along the river and passes through a beautiful landscape. Once in Kathmandu, we will transfer you to your respective hotel, and you will be given free time to wander around. Overnight will be spent in a hotel.

After breakfast, walk with us around the local town in Kathmandu to experience the local life and culture., The tour gives you a great opportunity to experience historical, cultural, and spiritual affluence to unveil the social and historical mysteries. On this walking tour, we explore the Local market of Ason, the glass beads market at Indra Chowk, the oldest supermarket at New Road, Kilagal, and Hidden Stupa etc.

After exploring these hidden charms of Kathmandu, we walk to Kathmandu Durbar Square. It is famous for its unique historical, cultural, and religious traditions. The most unique experience in the square is the visit to the temple of the living goddess “Kumari”. The Durbar Square walking tour will be a perfect mixture of culture, history, art, architecture and traditional values prevalent in Kathmandu Valley. Equipment Checklist

This list outlines the required things to bring during the trekking tours. There are various selections and brands that you can choose as per your interest. All required trekking equipment can be bought or even hired easily at a reasonable price in Kathmandu.

General

1. Four-season Sleeping bag (Optional/we can provide one if you need it but is to be returned after the trek)

2. Duffel or Rucksack bag  & suitcase (Optional/we can provide one if you need it but is to be returned after the trek)

Upper Body - Head / Ears / Eyes

Sun hat

1. Warm wool or synthetic hat that cover your ears.

4. Some people like ear-muffs; These are optional; a good hat, balaclava, and hooded jacket should really be sufficient, but this is a personal choice for some people (optional).

5. A neck warmer is another piece of gear for extra warmth if you feel you will need it (optional).

4. Softshell pants - synthetic, full zip from top and bottom preferable.

5. Trekking pants, preferably that zip on/off at the knees so they double as shorts..

6. Cotton pants (loose jeans/khakis).

7. All clothing should be kept dry using waterproof stuff sacks or large puncture resistant plastic bags.

8. Two pairs heavy weight socks to be worn over liner socks preferable for cold season.

9. Two pairs light weight socks, a good option for the lower / warmer parts of the trail.

10. Light to medium weight water proof hiking/trekking boots.

11. A pair of light trekking shoes or sneakers. Good for around the camp/lodges and in Kathmandu.

12. A pair of sandals (Optional).

Medicines and First Aid Kits

(Please note our guide will also carry the first aid kit bag during the trek. However we still recommend you to bring your personal first aid kit as well)

1. Extra Strength Excedrin for altitude related headaches.

2. Ibuprofen for general aches and pains.

3. Immodium or Pepto bismol capsules for upset stomach or diarrhea.

4. Diamox (commonly prescribed as Acetazolamide) 125 or 250mg tablets for altitude sickness. Please discuss with us before starting to take this medicine.

5. One small personal sized first-aid kit with blister treatments such as mole skin, band-aids, some waterproof tape, anti-infection ointments, etc. Your guides will have more extensive medical gear, but you should have the basics for general use.

Miscellaneous

1. Passport and extra passport photos (4 copies).

2. Airline ticket (Please make a copy and leave on at our office in KTM just in case if you need to change the date of your).

3. Durable wallet/pouch for travel documents, money & passport.

4. Lip balm. At least SPF 20, 2 sticks. A string taped to the stick is helpful, to hang around your neck and some are now being sold with a cord already attached. Handy as it prevents you from having to stop and look for it.

5. Sunscreen. SPF 40 is recommended and should be relatively new since it loses its effectiveness over time.

6. Pocket knife or small Swiss Army type.

7. Water purification Iodine tablets or Polar-pure crystals.

8. Toiletry kit. Be sure to include toilet paper stored in a plastic bag, hand wipes, and liquid hand sanitizer, towel, soap, etc.

9. Two bandanas.

Optional

1. One pair of adjustable trekking poles. Although these are listed as optional, these can be of great assistance to people who may think of themselves as generally clumsy or with bad knees, ankles, etc, especially when going downhill

2. Favorite snack foods

3. Paperback books, cards, mp3 player (there are a couple of stops where you could recharge. Avoid players with moving hardware as it may not function. Remember, keep these items lightweight

4. Binoculars

5. One lightweight point-and-shoot camera or 1 large SLR. Digital cameras are ok, but you must keep the batteries warm when not in use

6. Hydration bladder with drinking tube and tube insulator

7. A pee bottle for men and a pee funnel for women, some swear by them to avoid that chilly late-night trip

8. One small stainless steel thermos

All garments should be kept dry using waterproof stuff sacks or large puncture-resistant plastic bags.

Day 6 : Hike up to Poon Hill (3210m) and trek to Tadapani (2710m) 5-6 hrs walk.

Dhaulagiri ranges. An excellent vantage point, Poon Hill provides an unobstructed view of the high Himalayas. Here we spend an hour or so before returning back to Ghorepani for breakfast. Leaving Ghorepani, we climb along ridges and through pine and rhododendron forests toward Deurali (2960m) before reaching Tadapani.

Day 7 : Trek to Ghandrung ( 2000 m) 3 hrs walk

Duration: 11 Days Accomodation: Hotel

After having the local breakfast  we will start our  walk to Gandruk village. Today the trail continues with beautiful forest along with the agriculture field of the villagers. Gandruk is the beautiful and famous village from where the great scenario of the Himalaya range  can be seen There is gurung comunity musium you can visit and an old farmer village in tehe  side,rich of gurung culture so you spend some time exploreing the village. There is Gurung  culturel musium that  you can visit.You can see nice sunset over the annapurna mountain.Overnight at Lodge.

Day 8 : Drive from Ghandrung to Pokhara ( 3 hrs) and explore around.

After breakfast, we take a scenic drive to Pokhara, check into the hotel, and after lunch, we take a tour around Pokhara. First visit Devi’s Fall, in Nepali term for it is Patale Chango, derived from the literal translation of Paatal Ko Chango, meaning "Underworld's waterfall.

Just opposite of Devis fall, we visit Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, considered to be the most famous and longest cave in Nepal (2950m).  found during the 16th century.

Then we drive to the International Mountain Museum is the best museum where you can learn about the vast mountain ranges in Nepal, their ethnic groups, and their lifestyle. You can also learn about international mountains, amazing wonders, and famous mountaineers' lifestyles. It has a stunning collection of artifacts, original mountain gear, stories, and photographs of the mountains, their inhabitants, and the explorers who climbed some of the highest peaks in the world.

In the early evening, we take you boating tour on  Fewa Lake, it's a 5 Square Km lake which is beautiful with a magnificent view of the mountains both in the distance and reflection in the water. You will also boat to a holy temple middle of the lake. Spend your night at a hotel in Pokhara.

Day 9 : Drive from Pokhara – Kathmandu,(1300 m /4,265 ft ) /7 hrs drive:

After breakfast, you take a tourist bus to Pokhara tourist bus park, then drive back to Kathmandu – some 206 km.  You drive through a beautiful bending mountain highway that stretches along the river and passes through a beautiful landscape. Once in Kathmandu, we will transfer you to your respective hotel, and you will be given free time to wander around. Overnight will be spent in a hotel.

Day 10 : Love Kathmandu Tour (Hidden places in Kathmandu and Durbar square)

After breakfast, walk with us around the local town in Kathmandu to experience the local life and culture., The tour gives you a great opportunity to experience historical, cultural, and spiritual affluence to unveil the social and historical mysteries. On this walking tour, we explore the Local market of Ason, the glass beads market at Indra Chowk, the oldest supermarket at New Road, Kilagal, and Hidden Stupa etc.

After exploring these hidden charms of Kathmandu, we walk to Kathmandu Durbar Square. It is famous for its unique historical, cultural, and religious traditions. The most unique experience in the square is the visit to the temple of the living goddess “Kumari”. The Durbar Square walking tour will be a perfect mixture of culture, history, art, architecture and traditional values prevalent in Kathmandu Valley. After the tour you have free and easy time, Overnight at the Hotel.

Equipment Checklist

This list outlines the required things to bring during the trekking tours. There are various selections and brands that you can choose as per your interest. All required trekking equipment can be bought or even hired easily at a reasonable price in Kathmandu.

General

1. Four-season Sleeping bag (Optional/we can provide one if you need it but is to be returned after the trek)

5. Trekking pants, preferably that zip on/off at the knees so they double as shorts..

6. Cotton pants (loose jeans/khakis).

7. All clothing should be kept dry using waterproof stuff sacks or large puncture resistant plastic bags.

8. Two pairs heavy weight socks to be worn over liner socks preferable for cold season.

9. Two pairs light weight socks, a good option for the lower / warmer parts of the trail.

10. Light to medium weight water proof hiking/trekking boots.

11. A pair of light trekking shoes or sneakers. Good for around the camp/lodges and in Kathmandu.

12. A pair of sandals (Optional).

Medicines and First Aid Kits

(Please note our guide will also carry the first aid kit bag during the trek. However we still recommend you to bring your personal first aid kit as well)

1. Extra Strength Excedrin for altitude related headaches.

2. Ibuprofen for general aches and pains.

3. Immodium or Pepto bismol capsules for upset stomach or diarrhea.

4. Diamox (commonly prescribed as Acetazolamide) 125 or 250mg tablets for altitude sickness. Please discuss with us before starting to take this medicine.

5. One small personal sized first-aid kit with blister treatments such as mole skin, band-aids, some waterproof tape, anti-infection ointments, etc. Your guides will have more extensive medical gear, but you should have the basics for general use.

Miscellaneous

1. Passport and extra passport photos (4 copies).

2. Airline ticket (Please make a copy and leave on at our office in KTM just in case if you need to change the date of your).

3. Durable wallet/pouch for travel documents, money & passport.

4. Lip balm. At least SPF 20, 2 sticks. A string taped to the stick is helpful, to hang around your neck and some are now being sold with a cord already attached. Handy as it prevents you from having to stop and look for it.

5. Sunscreen. SPF 40 is recommended and should be relatively new since it loses its effectiveness over time.

6. Pocket knife or small Swiss Army type.

7. Water purification Iodine tablets or Polar-pure crystals.

8. Toiletry kit. Be sure to include toilet paper stored in a plastic bag, hand wipes, and liquid hand sanitizer, towel, soap, etc.

9. Two bandanas.

Optional

1. One pair of adjustable trekking poles. Although these are listed as optional, these can be of great assistance to people who may think of themselves as generally clumsy or with bad knees, ankles, etc, especially when going downhill

2. Favorite snack foods

3. Paperback books, cards, mp3 player (there are a couple of stops where you could recharge. Avoid players with moving hardware as it may not function. Remember, keep these items lightweight

5. One lightweight point-and-shoot camera or 1 large SLR. Digital cameras are ok, but you must keep the batteries warm when not in use

6. Hydration bladder with drinking tube and tube insulator

7. A pee bottle for men and a pee funnel for women, some swear by them to avoid that chilly late-night trip
