Annapurna Circuit (Round) Trekking Overview

During the Annapurna Circuit Trekking, you encircle the majestic Annapurna massif. Also known as the Round Annapurna Trek, it was nominated as one of the best trekking trails in the world earlier. The trekking provides unmatchable experiences of walking through a river valley and to the arid zone of high Himalayan landscape, including the adventure experience of crossing over the high Himalayan pass.

Before, this trek started from Besisahar but now starts from Jagat because of road building  The trail goes along the Marshyangdi river valley starting at a lower altitude and advancing to a higher elevation.

The adventurous trek bestows the spectacular beauty of Himalayan peaks from Dhaulagiri massif, the Annapurna massif, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu range in which three peaks above eight thousand meters are located. Not only the scenic beauty, the trek also confers the challenging task of walking through a high Himalayan alpine arid zone with less oxygen and crossing over the high Himalayan pass called Thorong-La (5,416 m/ 17,769 ft) from one valley to another. The Annapurna Circuit Trek, popularly known as the Thorong La Pass Trek, well undeniably gives you a chance to experience the multi-cultural life of Nepal with various ethnic flavors. The majority of people, places, and shrines in the higher Himalayan region belong to the Buddhist philosophy, and lower settlements of the mid-hill region and the river banks are filled with Hindu philosophy. Once nominated the best trekking trail of the world, Annapurna Circuit trekking is a wonderful amalgam of adventure, culture and nature.

bed Hotel meals Breakfast

Start your day with a warm breakfast at your hotel before beginning a guided tour of two culturally important UNESCO World Heritage Sites:

Pashupatinath Temple: It is one of the most celebrated Hindu temples in South Asia. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. This place is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The Bagmati river flowing beside the temple is religiously and spiritually significant for Hindus where the cremation of dead body takes place. Pashupatinath temple holds the most of prominence during Shivaratri—Shiva’s birthday—and thousands of pilgrims gather in the night to celebrate the day.

Boudhanath Stupa: It is one of the biggest Stupas in terms of size and height in Nepal and is located east of Kathmandu in the ancient trade route between India-Nepal and Tibet. The site is peaceful and culturally filled with the intermixed influence of Tibetan and Sherpa roots. Stupa built on the trading route between Kathmandu and Tibet has four pairs of eyes directed towards all four directions. It is believed to be influenced by Mahayana Buddhist philosophy.

Swyambhunath: Swyambhunath, also known as “Monkey Temple,” is a stupa that is sacred to both Buddhist and Hindu devotees. It is situated on a hill at 1406 meters (4613 feet) where one can enjoy a full panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley. The stupa is believed to be self-originated. The central stupa is encircled with prayer flags and small shrines. The eye of the central stupa serves as the focal point for meditation and reflection. After a city tour, we return to stay at the hotel.

duration10-11 Hours Driving bed Lodge meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

After the Breakfast , You are starting your adventure trek in the Annapurna region with a long and tedious yet scenic and spellbinding drive to Jagat – a small town located in the Marshyangdi River gorge. You drive through the snake-bending highway built in the mid-hill region of Nepal on beautiful landscapes.  The drive is pretty long and the part after Beshi Sahar is Earth Road.

Drive along the Marshyangdi River which is a beautiful section with various waterfalls on the right side and continue to Dharapani. It’s a comparatively big town, where the trekking from Manasalu region conjoins. Overnight in the lodge in Dharapani.

duration6 Hours bed Lodge meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

The day is rewarding with a beautiful view of the Himalayan peaks including Lamjung Himal (6,932 m/ 22,742 ft), Annapurna II (7,895 m/ 25,902 ft), Annapurna IV (7,536 m/ 24,724 ft), and Peak 29 or recently named as Dr Harka Gurung peak 7,871 m/ 25,823 ft)  – to honor notable Geographer, author, and politician known for conservation work he performed – and others. The trail is challenging since you need to walk through some steep ridges and landslide crossings. Overnight stay in the town of Chame – the capital market town of the Manang district.

duration5 Hours 30 min bed Hotel meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

Breakfast served at your lodge makes you ready in the morning to start another stunning day of your trek.  You will walk through the magnificent forest section today and slowly walk towards the alpine climate and zone. The trek to Pisang is a rewarding day with some challenging hikes uphill as well. There are two Pisang villages, Upper and Lower. Arrive in Lower Pisang, and stay overnight in the lodge.

duration5 Hours bed Lodge meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

It is one of the most beautiful days of your trek. We are taking you through the most thrilling route available. There are two routes to Manang, following the river bed, and from the higher up through the ridge. We take you via the upper route that offers the most magnificent view of the mountains including Annapurna II, III, IV, Pisang Peak (6,092 m/ 19,986 ft), and others.

As soon as you start from your lodge, you hike up to Gyaru – a challenging uphill to start with. You are now in a harsher climate and arid zone to struggle with. But, the hike is worth the view. Arrive in Manang and overnight stay at the lodge.

duration7 Hours bed Lodge meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

You spend the day in Manang A beautiful village situated in the Marshyangdi river valley. This place is located on the northern slope thus getting the most sunlight, and least snow cover in winter.

You will go for a hiking trip to Bhojo Gompa – the monastery located on a higher hill from where the view of the village Manang, and Gangapurna Lake is magnificent. Or you can hike to the Gangapurna Lake – a glacial lake located beneath the peak of Gangapurna (7,455 m/ 24,458 ft). The hike and extra day in Manang help you to acclimatize. Overnight at lodge.

duration4 Hours 30 min bed Lodge meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

After Breakfast We continue our trek. Today is not longer distance to cover but due to higher altitude you start to walk slowly. You past Tenki Manang from where the view of Manang village and Marshyangdi river bed/valley behind with the Gangapurna lake and peak, and gigantic Annapurna massif is impressive. Arrive Yak Kharka and overnight stay at the lodge. You can, if you are fit and fine, go for short acclimatization walk in the evening.

duration4 Hours durationNone bed Lodge meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

The  landscape is dry and harsh climate. You now struggle to walk in the higher altitude. Today, you walk around four hours to reach the Thorong Phedi – Base camp of the Pass. Some of you, if you are still strong, and fit, and altitude is not affecting you, then may choose to walk another hour and a half to the High Camp at 4,880 m/ 16,010 ft. The next day will be easier if you choose to reach High Camp, but equal chance that you struggle with altitude sickness. Overnight stay in the lodge

duration8-9 Hours durationNone bed Lodge meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

Today is the most important, and awe-inspiring day with some test, of the entire trek. You start early in the morning at dark and walk up to Thorong-La Pass. Yakawa Kang and Khatung Kang made up the pass which is a connection of Manang valley with Mustang valley. The snow-capped Annapurna massif, twinkling in the golden rays of the sun alongside Gangapurna and Tilicho Peak, glimpse of the dry Tibetan plateau and Dhaulagiri in the west, is a sight to behold. You may also see the mountainous Dhaulagiri range to the west, which add to the wonder.

The first hour takes you up steep till High Camp. It's a decent walk in a fairly steady pace that demands endurance at higher altitude where oxygen is really low to breathe, meanwhile you will get a dreamlike break in the middle of icy glaciers and the majestic mountains.  After which the trail smoothly advances towards the peak. From the peak, there is a glorious 1,600 meter descend to Muktinath, you walk through dramatic deep wind-swept Mustang Valley.

Visit Muktinath – the Hindu pilgrimage site where the temple dedicated to lord Vishnu is situated and famous as the God of salvation and dry landscape like Tibet.Overnight at lodge.

duration5 Hours durationNone bed Lodge meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

The landscape in this part of the trek is totally different than earlier. Mustang used to be the forbidden kingdom bordering Tibet, and with a very similar geographical landscape.

From Muktinath first, you climb to the Lubra danda and walk down to Lubra village –one of the picturesque Thakali villages in the region. During this walk, view of the mighty mountains including Dhaulagiri at the height of  8,167 m/ 26,795 ft –the seventh highest mountain in the world, Tukuche peak (6,920 m/ 22,703ft),  Nilgiri peak (7,061 m/ 23,166 ft).

You walk in the huge Kaligandaki River valley to reach Jomsom located in the bank of the river. Overnight at the lodge in Jomsom.

duration5 Hours durationNone bed Lodge meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

Early morning, take the breathtaking flight from Jomsom to Pokhara by small plane. View of the Annapurna massif on the left, and Dhaulagiri massif on the right and flying over the deep gorge made by these two mountains is indeed thrilling.

After this flight, you arrive at Pokhara – the most beautiful tourist town of Nepal in the lap of the Annapurnas. You spend your leisure day in Pokhara strolling around the town, boating in the Phewa Lake, Overnight stay at a Hotel in Pokhara.

bed Hotel meals Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner

Perched atop a hill overlooking the beautiful Phewa Lake, this stupa offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Annapurna mountain range. Built to promote global peace and unity, the stupa is a popular pilgrimage site for locals and tourists alike. Its pristine white structure and prayer flags fluttering in the wind create a sense of tranquility and reflection. Visitors can access the stupa through a short hike or a peaceful boat ride on Phewa Lake, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking both physical and spiritual elevation.

Devi’s Fall: Devi’s Fall is a tunnel approximately 500 feet (150 m) long and runs 100 feet (30 m) below ground level. It got its name after the sad incident that occurred on 31 July 1961. A Swiss couple went swimming but the woman drowned in a pit because of the overflow. Her body was recovered three days later in river Phusre with great effort. Her father wished to name it David Falls after her daughter's name but changed it to Devi’s Fall. The Nepali term for it is Patale Chango, derived from the literal translation of Paatal Ko Chango, meaning "Underworld's Waterfall”. Then we return back to the lakeside for Lunch and we visit International Mountain Museum.

International Mountain Museum: It is the best museum where you can learn about the vast mountain ranges in Nepal, their ethnic groups, and their lifestyle. You can also learn about international mountains, amazing wonders, and famous mountaineers' lifestyles. (history, evolution, development, and the legendary achievements in mountaineering.)It has a stunning collection of artifacts, original mountain gear, stories, and photographs of the mountains, their inhabitants, and the explorers who climbed some of the highest peaks in the world. Safety and altitude

Annapurna Circuit (Round) Trekking reaches 5,416 m, which is high altitude. Most people adapt well when they climb slowly, so the pace of the itinerary matters more than fitness alone.

How we pace it

The higher routes include acclimatisation days. Your guide checks every day how you are coping, can add a rest day, and will turn the group around if conditions or anyone's health make it unsafe to go on.

Know the signs

Headache, nausea, loss of appetite, dizziness and poor sleep are early signs of altitude sickness: tell your guide and do not go higher. Confusion, breathlessness at rest or unsteady walking are serious: descend at once.

Insurance and rescue

Travel insurance that covers medical treatment, air ambulance and helicopter rescue is a condition of booking. Check that your policy covers trekking up to 6,000 m. If an evacuation is needed, we coordinate it with your insurer.

Our crew

Our guides are licensed and come mostly from the mountain regions. Porters carry no more than 25–30 kg, are insured, and are never sent down alone when they are sick or hurt.

An Unforgettable Climb and a Perfect Team

Oct 2026 • Friends

An unforgettable journey. The Annapurna Circuit is a fantastic trek with marvelous views. Perfect organization of Mountain Delights (Nepal) and Enjoy Travel (Sweden). Our guide, Deepak Nepal, was outstanding. The absolute highlight was the adrenaline rush of finally standing at Thorong La Pass; that summit high is a feeling we will never forget. Highly recommended.

Amazing time on the Annapurna Circuit

May 2024 • Couples

Both myself and my partner have had the most amazing experience with Mountain Delight Trekking company. We completed the Annapurna Circuit with our guide - Purna, who was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Purna made sure we were catered for at every meal and also gave us many insights and knowledge of the areas we passed through. Purna was very professional throughout and ensured we were safe throughout our walk and always checked in on us incase we were injured or suffering from altitude sickness etc. However, above all, Purna was great company to be with and it’s was great chatting to him on our trek.

I will certainly come to Nepal again as there is so much to offer and I will use Mountain Delights and request for Purna to guide us as our experience has been 10/10.

Nar Phu Valley & Annapurna Circuit

Mar 2024 • Couples

When we arrived at the airport in Kathmandu, we met Sandip at the desk for SIM Cards. We chatted a bit and he recommended this agency for trekking to us (but kindly pointed out that we should compare different offers as there are so many agencies here). We did that and visited three different agencies around Thamel but in the end decided to go with this one because our agent Gokarna did a great job in individualizing our whole Trek (and we got a paper map, what we just loved!). We booked the Nar Phu Valley and Annapurna Circuit Trek for 20 days. They added a good range of flexibility (2 acclimatisation/rest days and 1 spare day if anything happens), what we really appreciated. Everything was well organised for our individual needs (Bus transport from Pokhara to Besisahar instead of kathmandu). Gokarna even checked in between our Trekking-Adventure if everything is alright - very caring!
And then they paired us with the best guide we could imagine! Narayan is such a calm and responsible person! He definitely went the extra mile for us in carrying apples as a dessert, always looking for the most comfortable room and showing us the best views. He was calm when we were slow and let us take the lead when we had a lot of energy. He responsibly cared for everything - from small frostbites and blisters to paving the way in deep snow at Kang La Pass or watching out for rock fall before Thorong Phedi! We loved to Trek with him and can strongly recommend him as a guide. ❤️ (P.S He even mastered our card game!).

Annapurna Circuit in Winter

Jan 2024 • Couples

Purna is a very nice guide who showed us the very known Anapurna Circuit. Very helpful, he always tried to find the good accomodation, the good rooms, etc. Also in Winter, you can't expect that everything is working in the hotel, but Purna made a lot possible!
At the top, I was not feeling well because of the Altitude, but I made it through the Thorong La Pass only with his help. So I am so so thankful.
