Sunkoshi River Rafting is one of the world's top 10 rafting trips. Big rapids, warm water, no roads or towns, stunning scenery, and fantastic campsites make the Sunkoshi White Water Rafting/Kayaking a class multi-day river adventure.
Sunkoshi means 'River of Gold', either referring to the gold that is occasionally sorted from the river gravels, or the orange tint of the water during the monsoon when it is thick with alluvial silt. The Sunkoshi flows eastward in a lovely valley nestled between the Mahabharat and Himalayan ranges. The origins of Sunkoshi may be traced back to Tibet, China's autonomous region.
The river flows through a densely forested area that is home to a diverse range of species. During the rafting journey, you can witness a variety of birds, monkeys, and even leopards. Gharial crocodiles, which primarily consume fish, can also be found in the river. The river has turbulent waves and a high volume of water, and eventually prepares rafters for the major rapids by introducing them to softer Class II and Class III rapids first.
Sunkoshi River Rafting becomes increasingly difficult as the day progresses, culminating in some thrilling rides through high water. During the rafting journey different rapids such as Punch& Judy, Black Hole, Big Dipper, High Anxiety, Meat Grinder, Rhino Rock, and Dead Man Eddy can be experienced. Rafting on the Sunkoshi River is a thrilling experience.
One of the camping locations is near a fascinating confluence of three of Nepal's major rivers i.e., Sunkoshi, Arun, and Tamur. The rafting trip begins from the Dolalghat, however, it is also possible from Dumjabesi, and ends in Chatara.
