Manaslu Region
The Manaslu region lies in Gorkha district in west-central Nepal, around Manaslu (8,163 m), the eighth-highest mountain in the world. It is a restricted area: you need a Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit and, for the exit through Manang, the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit. Trekkers must be at least two and travel with a licensed guide.
The Manaslu Circuit starts with a drive to Soti Khola or Machha Khola and follows the Budhi Gandaki valley through Gurung and Tibetan-Buddhist villages such as Samagaun and Samdo before crossing Larkya La at 5,106 m. Our circuit takes 16 days including Kathmandu. The Tsum Valley Trek is a quieter side route, and the Manaslu Expedition climbs the main summit.
The best seasons are March to May and late September to November. Teahouse lodges are simpler than in Everest or Annapurna.
