Larkya La Pass, or Larke Pass, is a high-altitude mountain pass that sits at an altitude of 5,106 m (16,752 ft) above sea level. The pass is the highest point you reach if you are trekking in Nepal’s Manaslu Circuit. Larkya La Pass connects two mountains, Manaslu and Annapurna, by linking Budhi gandaki valley and Marsyangdi valley. 

During the Manaslu trek, you trek up from the Budhi Gandaki River Valley, crossing Tibetan-influenced settlements like Samagaon, to reach the Larkya La Pass. From the Pass you descend towards Bimthang in the Marsyangdi River Valley to complete the circuit. The area of Larke Pass is located in the Manaslu Conservation Area in Gandaki Province in the northwestern region of Nepal.

How To Reach the Larkya La Pass Route?

The journey to Larkya La Pass begins from Soti Khola in Gorkha, the starting point of the Manaslu circuit trek. From there you trek to Macchikhola, Jagat village, Deng, and Namrung. Trekking past traditional Gurung and Tibetan villages like Lho, Samagaon, and Samdo, you reach Dharamsala, the base of Larkya La Pass. From Dharamsala (Larkya Phedi), you take a challenging segment to reach the top of Larkya La Pass, crossing a 14 KM section in an average of 7 to 9 hours depending upon your pace and route conditions. Alternatively, you can also trek through Bhimtang via Dharapani from the Manang side. 

How Difficult Is Larkya La Pass?

Reaching the Larkya La Pass is considered a moderately to challenging difficult trek in the Manaslu region of Nepal. As trekkers also reach the altitude above 5,000 m, acclimatization and proper rest days are also important. While technical climbing skills are not required, trekkers must prepare physically and mentally to successfully reach the Larke pass. The cold temperature, long trekking hours, high altitude, and remote location make the Larkya La Pass a moderately challenging and difficult section in the Manaslu Circuit.

Permits are mandatory for legally trekking in the Manaslu circuit in Nepal. You require the following permits below to reach Larkya Pass in Nepal’s Manaslu region:

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) 

NPR 3,000 for foreigners and NPR 1,000 for SAARC nationals. 

Chumnubri Rural Municipality Fee

NPR 1000 for foreigner and NPR 200 for Nepalese trekkers
